Laura Morante, born on 21 August 1956 in Santa Fiora, Tuscany, is an Italian film actress. She began as a dancer and started acting on stage at 18 with the company of Carmelo Bene. Her screen debut was Lost Belongings (Oggetti smarriti) by Giuseppe Bertolucci, followed by Tragedy of a Ridiculous Man directed by his brother. Her breakthrough came when director Nanni Moretti cast her in Sweet Body of Bianca. After marrying French actor Georges Claisse, she moved to Paris and built a reputation in European art cinema. She returned to Italy and in 2001 won the David di Donatello for Best Actress for The Son’s Room, and was later nominated for Remember Me, My Love (2003) and won the Silver Ribbon for Love Is Eternal When It Lasts. Morante drew attention as Madame Jourdain in Molière (2007). She also provided the voice of Elastigirl in the Italian version of The Incredibles. In 2012 she made her directorial debut with Cherry on the Cake, a French-Italian co‑production, earning a nomination for Best New Director at the David di Donatello.
