Publishers Weekly lists the bestselling novels in the United States for each year from 2010 to 2019. The exact rules for what counts as a bestseller aren’t fully known. After 2012, PW used Nielsen BookScan data for print sales and Amazon lists for Kindle and print, and some lists combine formats. Nonfiction is excluded when possible. Based on Nielsen BookScan data, the Fifty Shades series was the decade’s top seller, with Fifty Shades of Grey selling about 15.2 million copies from 2010 to 2019. The Hunger Games (2008) ranked fourth with about 8.7 million copies, followed by The Help (2009) with about 8.7 million copies.
