Leader Board
Leader Board is a series of golf-simulation games from Access Software, developed by Bruce Carver and Roger Carver. The first game, Leader Board, arrived in 1986 and let players tackle water-heavy courses. It was very well received and became the best-selling Commodore 64 game in the UK for 1986. The title was released on many platforms of the era, including Commodore 64/128, Atari 8-bit, Amiga, ZX Spectrum, MS-DOS, and more.
In 1986 came Leader Board Tournament, a set of four new courses sold as expansion disks. The next game, Leader Board: Executive Edition (1987), added new landscape features like trees and bunkers, but received cooler reviews than the original.
World Class Leader Board, the last major title in the series, included four courses—Cypress Creek, Doral Country Club, St Andrews, and the fictional Gauntlet Country Club—and introduced new options such as a course overview, the punch shot, a printable scorecard, RealSound, and a course editor. It was praised as a strong improvement over Executive Edition and earned high scores from magazines.
Three course expansion disks followed the final release. The games were noted for their realism, especially the putting, and for their graphics on various platforms. The Amiga version was seen as an improvement over the Commodore 64 version, while some reviewers noted differences from other golf games. Overall, Leader Board is remembered as a significant early golf simulation from Access Software.
