Elias Rababi
Elias Rababi (1913–1999) was a Lebanese journalist and politician who served as the general secretary of the Kataeb Party and as editor-in-chief of the party’s newspaper, Al Amal. He also represented Lebanon as ambassador to Germany (1959–1962) and to Argentina (1962–1966).
Biography: Rababi was a Maronite and joined the Kataeb Party after its founding in 1936, rising to regional director and helping with recruitment. He edited the party’s newspapers Al Amal and Action for many years and led the party’s propaganda and press work. He also worked as a columnist for An-Nahar in the 1980s. He ran in the Mount Lebanon I by-election on 4 May 1945, but Philippe Takla won the seat.
Rababi helped establish early contacts between Israeli officials and the Kataeb in 1948–1951, including organizing a 1950 meeting in Switzerland between Kataeb leader Pierre Gemayel and Israeli diplomat Yehoshua Palmon. These contacts were later highlighted by historians.
Rababi died in December 1999.
