Pristimantis w-nigrum
Pristimantis w-nigrum, also known as the Zurucuchu robber frog or w rainfrog, is a small frog in the Strabomantidae family. It lives on both sides of the Andes in Colombia, Ecuador, and northern Peru. It may actually be a group of at least eight closely related but very similar species.
Males are about 29–47 mm long, and females are 44–57 mm. It has a distinctive yellow color with black markings on the groin, the front and back of the thighs, and the concealed part of the shank. The tympanum (ear) is clearly visible.
Its natural habitats are cloud forests and sub-páramo, but it can also be found in deforested and disturbed areas. It is a nocturnal species that sits on vegetation up to 3 meters above the ground; during the day it can be found on fallen leaves.
The species is common overall, but it has declined in some areas. Conservation status: Least Concern.
