United Rhodesia Party
The United Rhodesia Party (URP) was a white‑led party in Southern Rhodesia, also known as the United Party. It first came to power in 1933 under Prime Minister Godfrey Huggins and remained in government until 1953, when it was seen as a conservative party.
In November 1957, the URP merged with the Federal Party to form the United Federal Party (UFP), led by Garfield Todd. In early 1958, after internal party struggles, Todd broke away to revive the URP as a more liberal party. The revived URP contested the 1958 general election but won no seats.
Later in 1958, the URP merged back with the UFP after Todd’s defeat in Territorial elections and the UFP's victory under Sir Edgar Whitehead.
