Plesiotherapy

Content sourced from Wikipedia, licensed under CC BY-SA 3.0.

Plesiotherapy is a type of radiation therapy where the radiation source is placed directly on the skin. Unlike teletherapy, where radiation comes from a distance, or brachytherapy, where sealed sources are placed inside the body, plesiotherapy uses close contact to deliver radiation to surface tissues. The dose falls off quickly with depth, making it suitable for treating superficial areas. An example is using a strontium-90 eye applicator to treat pterygium.
