Pieter Kuyper Albertyn
PK Albertyn, Pieter Kuyper Albertyn (27 May 1897 – 7 March 1973), nicknamed PK or Pierre, was a South African rugby union player and the 15th captain of the Springboks. Born in Kleinmond, he attended Stellenbosch Boys’ High School and Victoria College, where he played for Maties mainly as a fast wing before moving to centre after a knee injury in 1919 against the New Zealand military team. In 1920 he studied dentistry at Guy’s Hospital in London and, after returning to South Africa in 1923, settled in George to practice. For the 1924 tour of Britain and Ireland, he was initially overlooked for trials but was called up and played in the first test as centre and captain. He captained the Springboks in all four tests of the series and scored a try in the second match. Albertyn died in Cape Town in 1973 at the age of 75.
