Omar Hashi Aden
Omar Hashi Aden (Somali: Cumar Xaashi Aaden; Arabic: عمر هاشي آدم) was a Somali politician from the Hiiraan region. He served as a member of parliament under Siad Barre and spent time in exile in Eritrea during the civil war. After the Transitional Federal Government was formed, he rose to become Somalia’s Minister of Security under President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, and he led efforts against al-Shabaab and other militant groups. On 18 June 2009, he was killed in Beledweyne when a suicide bomber attacked a hotel, killing Aden and several other officials. The bombing was blamed on al-Shabaab.
