Phail Wynn
Phail Wynn Jr. (born around 1948 – July 24, 2018) was an American academic administrator and businessman. He served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Oklahoma, a PhD from North Carolina State University, and an MBA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He was president of Durham Technical Community College from 1980 to 2007. From 2007 to 2018, he was the vice president for Durham and Regional Affairs at Duke University. He also served on the board of SunTrust Banks from 2004 to 2018 and helped the Triangle Community Foundation as a board member, Leadership Council member, and interim president on two occasions. He and his wife Peggy had a son named Rahsaan, a Marine Corps master gunnery sergeant. They lived in Durham, North Carolina, where he died on July 24, 2018, at age 70. His funeral was held at Duke Chapel on July 30, 2018.
