The World Made Straight is a novel by Ron Rash, published in 2006. Set in the 1970s of western North Carolina, it follows a young man who discovers a grove of marijuana and sees a chance to make easy money. His decision pulls him into danger when a ruthless cannabis farmer catches him in the act. He leaves home to live with a former schoolteacher in a trailer, starts dealing drugs, and studies Civil War journals. As the past and present collide, the community faces a violent reckoning with the marijuana farmer and with a Civil War massacre that still divides the Appalachian town.

The book was adapted into a feature film, with a screenplay by Shane Danielsen. It stars Jeremy Irvine as Travis and Noah Wyle as his mentor Leonard, joined by Adelaide Clemens, Minka Kelly, Steve Earle, and Haley Joel Osment. Filmed in North Carolina, the movie was released in January 2015 and received mixed reviews.
