Petr Spálený
Petr Spálený (born March 22, 1944, in Prague) is a Czech musician and composer who sings and plays guitar, flute and drums. His music sits at the crossroads of pop, rock, big beat and country. He is known for a distinctive style that sounds like melodic recitation, mixing singing with a humming feel. He has been a prominent figure in Czech pop music for many decades.
Spálený began his career in the late 1950s in amateur big-beat bands. He started on drums, then added guitar and flute during his military service. After leaving the army, he joined his brother Jan Spálený’s band Hipps, which later changed its name to Apollobeat on Jiří Štaidl’s suggestion. Their first hit was Plakalo bejby.
He comes from a musical family. His brother Jan Spálený is a musician, journalist and radio presenter. Petr has two daughters with his first wife, singer Pavlína Filipovská: Pavlína and Johanna. His second wife is singer Miluše Voborníková, and they have a daughter named Barbora.
In addition to performing, Spálený has worked as a composer, writing music for Jiří Grossmann’s stage shows and for the TV program Zajíc v pytli. He has also appeared in minor roles in several Czech films.
