Kameyosek, Edmonton
Kameyosek is a residential neighbourhood in the Mill Woods area of southeast Edmonton, Alberta. It’s part of the Lakewood community and is bordered by 66 Street to the east, 34 Avenue to the north, Mill Woods Road to the west, and 28 Avenue to the south. The name comes from Cree and means “the beautiful.”
In 2012, about 2,907 people lived in 1,171 homes, with a density of roughly 4,038 people per square kilometre. Most homes were built in the 1970s, with many more built in the 1980s. The housing mix includes row houses (about 50%), single-family homes (about 32%), rented apartments (about 16%), and duplexes (about 1%). About 53% of homes are owner-occupied, and the average household size is about 3 people. The community has been fairly mobile, with many residents moving within the past few years.
Kameyosek has its own public school, Kameyosek Community School. A former MacEwan University South Campus building in the neighbourhood has seen various changes, including a major wellness project planned for completion in 2025.
Nearby amenities include Mill Woods Town Centre for shopping, and essential services such as Grey Nuns Community Hospital, a fire station, and the South East Division police station in the adjacent Tawa area. The Mill Woods Recreation Centre is located at Mill Woods Park to the south.
