Patsy Flaherty

Patsy Flaherty was an American baseball pitcher who played in Major League Baseball from 1899 to 1911. He was born June 29, 1876, in Mansfield, Pennsylvania (now Carnegie) and died January 23, 1968, in Alexandria, Louisiana, at age 91. He batted and threw left-handed and was known for using the spitball.

Flaherty played for several teams during his career: Louisville Colonels (1899), Pittsburgh Pirates (1900 and 1904–05), Chicago White Sox (1903–04), Boston Doves (1907–08), Philadelphia Phillies (1910), and Boston Rustlers (1911). His MLB debut was on September 8, 1899, and his last game was on September 14, 1911.

In 1903, he led the American League in hits allowed and losses. In 1908, he led the National League in earned runs allowed. Over nine seasons, he had a win–loss record of 67–84 and an ERA of 3.10. He is buried at Alexandria National Cemetery in Pineville, Louisiana.
