Tre Demps
Tre Demps is a former American professional basketball player and current basketball analyst. He was born on May 21, 1993, in Portland, Oregon. He stands 6 feet 3 inches tall and played as a guard.
Tre grew up in the East Bay Area of California and moved several times before finally settling in San Antonio, Texas, after his father Dell Demps joined the Spurs. He went to Ronald Reagan High School in San Antonio, where he earned All-State honors twice.
He played college basketball at Northwestern from 2011 to 2016. He redshirted his first year after a shoulder injury. He finished his Wildcats career with 1,518 points (12th in school history), 353 rebounds, and 288 assists (3rd in school history). He earned honorable mention All-Big Ten in his redshirt junior and senior seasons, averaging 12.5 and 15.7 points per game.
After college, Demps played in the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament and went undrafted in 2016. He joined the Chicago Bulls’ Summer League team but did not play in any games.
Tre began his professional career overseas:
- Belfius Mons-Hainaut in Belgium (2016–2018): 14.2 PPG in his first season, followed by 13.6 PPG in 37 league games the next season. He also averaged 16.1 PPG in 16 games of the 2017–18 FIBA Europe Cup and was named to the Eurobasket.com All-Imports Team.
- Vanoli Cremona in Italy (2018–Feb 2019): 10.5 PPG, 2.1 rebounds, 1.2 assists in 17 games.
- Kolossos Rodou in Greece (Feb–end of 2019): 8.4 PPG, 3.0 rebounds, 1.6 assists in 10 games; the team finished 5–21.
- Cestistica San Severo in Italy (Serie A2, 2019–2020): 18.6 PPG, 3.6 rebounds, 3.2 assists; named Player of the Month for September.
- MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg in Germany (July 2020): joined but left the team in October 2020.
Demps announced his retirement from professional basketball on May 10, 2022, due to hip arthritis. He moved into sports media and now works as an analyst for NBC Sports and CBS Sports Network, after two seasons with the Big Ten Network.
Personal life: He is the son of former NBA player and Pelicans GM Dell Demps. Tre is married to Heather Demps and they have three children. He has spoken about his Christian faith, which has been important to him since 2011.
