Patrick Mary O'Donnell
Patrick Mary O'Donnell (1897–1980) was an Irish-born Catholic priest who became Archbishop of Brisbane, Australia. He was born on 2 February 1897 in Fethard, Ireland, to Thomas and Johanna O'Donnell, who ran a drapery business. He was ordained a priest in Sale, Victoria, on 15 April 1922. On 8 November 1948 he was named coadjutor archbishop of Brisbane, with the right to succeed. He served as coadjutor to Archbishop James Duhig for 16 years until Duhig’s death on 10 April 1965, when he became Archbishop. He retired on 5 March 1973 under the Vatican II rule that bishops retire at 75. He installed his successor, Francis Roberts Rush, on 30 May 1973. O'Donnell lived at Glengariff in Hendra, Brisbane, until his death on 2 November 1980 and was buried beside Duhig in the Cathedral of St Stephen.
