White Rose Stakes
The White Rose Stakes was a flat horse race in Britain for three-year-olds. It was held at Ascot Racecourse in England, run over 1 mile 2 furlongs (2,012 metres) on turf, on a right-handed track. It usually took place in April or May.
History: The race began at Hurst Park. At one time it was open to horses aged three or older and run over about 1 mile 7 furlongs and 65 yards. In the early 1950s it was restricted to three-year-olds and the distance was cut to 1 mile 2 furlongs. It moved to Ascot in 1963.
In 1971, with the new race grading system, the event was classified as Group 3. It remained Group 3 into the early 1980s, but was later downgraded. The race was last run in 1993 and in 1994 it was replaced by the White Rose Handicap, an open-age handicap.
