Parents' Day
Parents' Day is a time to celebrate and thank parents. The date and traditions vary by country:
- United States: Fourth Sunday in July. It was set in 1994 by Congress to recognize the important role of parents.
- South Korea: May 8. Known as Parents' Day, created in 1973 and replacing the older Mother's Day on May 8; people often give carnations and hold family events.
- Democratic Republic of the Congo: August 1. Siku ya Wazazi; a day to honor parents and ancestors with public ceremonies.
- Philippines: First Monday of December. Proclaimed as Parents' Day, though it is not widely celebrated.
- United Nations: June 1 is the Global Day of Parents to appreciate all parents around the world.
Origins: The idea blends Christian, Confucian, and other traditions and often links to Mother's Day and Father's Day in different places.
