O-Desmethylangolensin

O-Desmethylangolensin (O-DMA) is a phytoestrogen, a plant-based compound that can act like estrogen in the body. It is formed in the gut when certain bacteria convert the soy compound daidzein. Not everyone makes O-DMA; some people’s gut bacteria produce it, while others do not. In some studies, people who produce O-DMA have higher mammographic density (about 69% higher) and slightly higher bone density (about 6% higher) compared with non-producers. These findings show associations, not prove that O-DMA causes these changes.
