Panhandle-Pecos Valley League
The Panhandle–Pecos Valley League was a short minor league baseball league in 1923. It was a Class D league with four teams from Amarillo, Texas; Clovis, New Mexico; Lubbock, Texas; and Roswell, New Mexico. The teams were the Amarillo Gassers, Clovis Cubs, Lubbock Hubbers, and Roswell Giants. The league formed from parts of the 1922 West Texas League, with three of its teams joining the new league, and S. D. Hunter served as president.
The season began on May 8, 1923, and used a split-season format. The league folded on August 15, 1923. In the final standings, Amarillo led with a 62–42 record, followed by Lubbock at 57–47, Clovis at 48–56, and Roswell at 41–63. Lubbock won the first-half title, and Clovis won the second-half title. A nine-game playoff was held, and the Lubbock Hubbers defeated the Amarillo Gassers 5 games to 4 to win the league’s only championship. The Hubbers were the league’s only champions.
