Panasonic Electric Works
Panasonic Electric Works Co., Ltd. is a Japanese company that makes industrial devices and is part of Panasonic. It began in 1918 when Konosuke Matsushita started Matsushita Electric Works, making bicycle flashlight components and later lighting products. During World War II, the company produced a range of items, including airplane propellers and light sockets. After the war, the United States forced a split into Matsushita Electric Works (MEW) and Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. (MEI), the latter becoming Panasonic. MEW’s business includes automation controls, electronic materials, lighting, information equipment, wiring products, building products, and home appliances. In 2004 MEW began pursuing collaborations with MEI. In 2005 Aromat was renamed Panasonic Electric Works. On July 29, 2010, Panasonic agreed to buy the remaining shares of Panasonic Electric Works and Sanyo for $9.4 billion. In 2007 Panasonic acquired India’s Anchor Electricals Pvt. Ltd.
