Palpopleura lucia (Drury, 1773), the Lucia widow, is a dragonfly in the Libellulidae family. It is found across much of sub-Saharan Africa and on nearby islands, including Angola, Benin, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ivory Coast, Ethiopia, Gabon, Ghana, Guinea, Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, São Tomé and Príncipe, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, Sudan, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and possibly Burundi. It lives in a variety of wet habitats, from tropical forests and dry shrublands to rivers, lakes, swamps, marshes, and freshwater springs, including both permanent and seasonal waters. It is listed as Least Concern by the IUCN (version 3.1).
