Palaeotyto
Palaeotyto is an extinct genus of ancient owl-like birds that lived during the Palaeogene period. The only known species is Palaeotyto cadurcensis, described by Mourer-Chauviré in 1987. Fossils have been found in the Quercy Phosphorites Formation in France. It belongs to the family Sophiornithidae. Classification: Kingdom Animalia; Phylum Chordata; Class Aves; Order Strigiformes (the owls, likely); Genus Palaeotyto; Species P. cadurcensis. Binomial name: Palaeotyto cadurcensis.
