Péter Hunčík
Péter Hunčík (born 25 May 1951) is a Slovak psychiatrist and writer of Hungarian ethnicity. He was born in Šahy, Czechoslovakia, and studied medicine at Comenius University. As a psychiatrist, he co-authored Tension Anticipation System (1999) with Sándor Bordás; the Hungarian version is Feszültség-Előrejelző Rendszer (1999). In late 2009 he won the Sándor Bródy prize for the best first novel, Határeset (Borderline Case). He has written Magyarok Szlovákiában 1989–2004 (Hungarians in Slovakia, with József Fazekas, 2004) and Global Report on Slovakia (with Martin Butora, 1997). In politics, he supports normalizing relations between Hungary and Slovakia. He was briefly an advisor to Václav Havel and helped set up TV Nova, and he opposed the separation of Czechoslovakia into the Czech Republic and Slovakia. He lives in Dunajská Streda and runs a private psychiatric practice.
