2008 Maryland Republican presidential primary
The Maryland Republican presidential primary was held on February 12, 2008. Maryland had 37 delegates to the 2008 Republican National Convention. Delegates were awarded: three delegates for the winner in each of Maryland’s eight congressional districts, plus the remaining delegates were awarded at-large.
John McCain won the Maryland primary. He received 54.84% of the vote (176,046 votes) and all 37 delegates. Mike Huckabee came in second with 28.54% (91,608 votes). Mitt Romney received 6.99% (21,426 votes); Ron Paul had 5.98% (19,196 votes); Rudy Giuliani 1.42% (4,548 votes); Alan Keyes 1.05% (3,386 votes); Fred Thompson 0.90% (2,901 votes); Duncan Hunter 0.16% (522 votes); Tom Tancredo 0.11% (356 votes).
Total votes cast were 320,989.
Prior to the vote, Maryland Republicans favored McCain in polls, with about 56% supporting him, 17% Huckabee, and 10% supporting Ron Paul.
That day’s Maryland primary was part of a trio of contests on the same date referred to as the Potomac primary, which also included the District of Columbia and Virginia.
