One in Every Crowd
One in Every Crowd is a 2009 country song by Montgomery Gentry from the album Back When I Knew It All. It was released January 20, 2009 as the album’s third single. The song was written by Eddie Montgomery, Kim Tribble, and Ira Dean (formerly of Trick Pony) and produced by Blake Chancey. It’s an upbeat tune with electric guitars, sung by Eddie Montgomery and Troy Gentry.
The lyrics tell of a man at a bar who gets everyone to party, with the twist that the narrator is that guy: “There’s one in every crowd, and it’s usually me.” The backup chorus adds a cheering moment before the final chorus. Critics praised it as anthemic and catchy, with a crowd-chanting feel. The song debuted at number 49 on the Hot Country Songs chart on February 7, 2009 and quickly rose into the top 40, becoming Montgomery Gentry’s last top-five hit. It followed “Roll with Me” (2008) and was followed by “Long Line of Losers” (2009).
