The 2013 ARMM general election was held on May 13, 2013. It was the first ARMM election synchronized with the Philippines’ national elections; previously, ARMM votes were held on a separate date. After the 2008 ARMM officials left office in December 2011, the President appointed officers-in-charge to oversee the region until the new winners could take over.

In ARMM, the governor and the vice governor are elected separately by first-past-the-post, and they can come from different parties. The regional assembly is elected by plurality-at-large voting, with three seats per district. Voters may vote for up to three candidates, and the three candidates with the most votes win.

In the gubernatorial race, Mujiv Hataman of the Liberal Party, with running mate Haroun Alrashid Lucman, won against Pax Mangudadatu (Independent), who received about 99,998 votes or 25.53% of the total. Hataman garnered about 232,253 votes, or 59.30%, and was the incumbent governor who was re-elected.
