BC Chernomorets
BC Chernomorets, also known as Chernomorets Burgas, is a Bulgarian professional basketball team from Burgas. They play in the National Basketball League (NBL), Bulgaria’s top league. The club was founded in 1946 and plays home games at Arena Burgas, which seats about 6,000. The Sharks are led by president Vasil Stoyanov and head coach Vassil Evtimov.
Chernomorets has won three Bulgarian Cups (1965, 1975 and 2024) and earned bronze medals in the Bulgarian Championship in 1981 and 1991. Burgas has a long basketball tradition, with the club spending several years among Bulgaria’s elite. Notable coaches include Dinko Hadjidinev and Panayot Vlaev. Many Burgas players moved on to pro leagues, such as Boycho Branzov, Petko Marinov, Atanas Stoyanov, Georgi Yordanov, Kostov Stancho, Dimo Kostov and Decho Koeshinov. The club has also seen success at the junior level, including a bronze medal in the 2009/2010 Junior League.
