Olimpíada Brasileira de Matemática
The Brazilian Mathematical Olympiad (OBM) is a yearly math competition for Brazilian students. Medals are awarded, and the event helps pick Brazil’s team for the International Mathematical Olympiad. OBM began in 1979. In 1991 it split into Junior (up to 15 years old) and Senior (high school) levels. In 2001 a University level with two phases was added.
In 2017 OBM was integrated into OBMEP and now runs a single phase for levels 1–3, for invited students based on OBMEP Phase 2 scores. The University level remains in two phases, but undergraduates register individually.
In 2019 the Girls in Mathematics Tournament (TM²) started, for female students from 8th grade onward; winners can participate in OBM the following year. In 2020 the Elon Lages Lima Mathematics Competition became the official first phase of OBM for university students, with a second phase called Fase Única (Single Phase). Since 2022, middle and high school students can enter the Jacob Palis Jr. Mathematics Competition, with winners able to compete in OBM in the same year; female TM² winners can compete in the next TM² edition.
The exams are divided into four levels according to education level.
