Philippe Boucher
Philippe Boucher (born March 24, 1973) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey defenseman who played in the NHL from 1992 to 2009 for the Buffalo Sabres, Los Angeles Kings, Dallas Stars and Pittsburgh Penguins. Drafted 13th overall by Buffalo in 1991, he was born in Saint-Apollinaire, Quebec, stands 6 ft 3 in tall and weighs 212 lb, and shoots right. He began his junior career in the QMJHL with the Granby Bisons, earning Rookie of the Year and second-team All-Star honors.
After turning pro, he started with the Sabres, spent time with the Rochester Americans, and was traded to the Kings in 1994-95. He had a career-high 80 games in 2001-02 with L.A. In 2002 he signed with the Dallas Stars, where he later tied the franchise record for goals by a defenseman in a season with 19 in 2006-07 and was chosen for the 2007 All-Star Game. In 2003 he suffered a broken orbital bone when struck by a puck and wore a visor afterward. In the 2008-09 season, the Stars traded him to the Penguins for Darryl Sydor, and he helped Pittsburgh win the Stanley Cup before retiring on September 3, 2009.
Off the ice, Boucher has worked in hockey management. He was the general manager of the Drummondville Voltigeurs from 2019 to 2023 and has also served as GM for the Quebec Remparts and the Rimouski Oceanic. He and his wife Lucie and their two children, Matthew and Vanessa, spend summers in Quebec City. He founded the Philippe-Boucher Foundation to help underprivileged children in the Lotbinière region.
