Oakland Soul SC
Oakland Soul Sports Club is a women’s professional soccer team based in Oakland, California. Formed in 2022 as the women’s side of Oakland Roots SC, they began playing in the USL W League in 2023. Home games are at Merritt College Soccer Stadium, which seats 3,451. The club is owned by a group that includes notable owners such as Marshawn Lynch and Jason Kidd, and the head coach is Jessica Clinton.
In the 2023 season, Oakland Soul finished with 10 wins and 2 draws, placing second in the Nor Cal Division before being eliminated in the Conference Semifinals by San Francisco Glens SC. The Soul aim to join the top tier, the USL Super League, in the future once a new soccer-specific stadium is built, with plans to share a stadium on the Coliseum site alongside Oakland Roots. The crest and brand were unveiled on June 23, 2023, the 50th anniversary of Title IX.
