Nuthin' Fancy
Nuthin' Fancy is the third studio album by the Southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd. It was released on March 24, 1975, and the music blends Southern rock with blues rock, boogie, and hard rock. The album was the band’s first to reach the Top 10 in the U.S., peaking at number 9. It later earned gold status in June 1975 and was certified platinum in July 1987.
This release marked the debut of drummer Artimus Pyle. In May 1975, guitarist Ed King left the band during their Torture Tour. The best-known song on the album is the single “Saturday Night Special,” which warns about acting on impulse and reached number 27 on the Billboard chart.
Robert Christgau gave the album a positive review, praising Ronnie Van Zant’s vocal performance and the band’s range. All lyrics are by Ronnie Van Zant. The album was produced by Al Kooper and recorded mainly in January 1975 at WEBB IV Studios in Atlanta, with track 1 recorded in August 1974 at Studio One in Doraville, Georgia. Its total length is 37 minutes and 34 seconds, and it was released by MCA Records.
