Nowthatsfuckedup.com was a controversial shock site that ran from February 2004 to April 2006. It became known for graphic images from war zones in Iraq and Afghanistan, including dead bodies, and a “bodies-for-porn” idea. The site started with user-submitted amateur porn but then offered free access to U.S. military personnel who could prove their service, because many service members faced payment hurdles or scrutiny at their bases.
In 2006, founder Christopher Wilson was arrested on 301 charges—300 misdemeanors and one felony—under Florida obscenity laws. He hired a high-profile First Amendment law firm and received help from the ACLU; after a plea deal he agreed to close the site and not work on adult sites for five years, pleading guilty to five misdemeanors. The site stayed online for about 90 more days for existing subscribers before Polk County authorities shut it down. Wilson later started documentingreality.com, a site focused on war footage and death photos of both famous and non-famous subjects.
