Ganga Ram Viakarni
Ganga Ram Viakarni, also known as Ganga Das Viakarni, was an 18th‑century Udasi mahant who founded the Chitta Akhara in Amritsar. The akhara, located in the Mai Sawan Bazar area, is named after him and is still active today. He was skilled in Sanskrit and Gurmukhi grammar. The Sikh chiefs of his time allowed him to run a langar (free kitchen) near Harmandir Sahib (the Golden Temple). The founding date is given as 1781 by some sources and 1789 by others. Today, the akhara preserves historical frescoes, contains ancient tombs, and is part of the Amritsar Heritage Walk.
