Northern New Jersey Council
The Northern New Jersey Council (#333) of the Boy Scouts of America is based in Oakland, New Jersey. It was created in January 1999 by merging four former councils—Essex, Hudson Liberty, Bergen, and Passaic Valley—to better serve Scouting in northern New Jersey. The council now serves Bergen, Essex, Hudson, and Passaic counties and is organized into three districts.
Over the years, many local councils merged to form what is now NNJ Council. Its long history includes names like Ridgewood, Englewood, Paterson Area, Tamara ck, Essex, Hudson Liberty, Bergen, Passaic Valley, and more, all coming together to become the NNJ Council in 1999.
The council runs several camping properties for year-round and summer programs. These include Camp Alpine in Alpine, Camp No-Be-Bo-Sco in Hardwick Township (a historic camp opened in 1927), Camp Lewis in Rockaway Township, Camp Yaw-Paw in the Ramapo Mountains (a Cub Day Camp in the summer and winter camping elsewhere), Camp Glen Gray near Mahwah, and Floodwood Mountain Reservation in New York (with Rollins Pond Canoe Base and West Pine Pond Camp). The Dow Drukker Scout Reservation in Cuddebackville, NY (with Camp Turrell and Camp Kluge) is also part of NNJ Council’s camping program.
The council’s Order of the Arrow lodge is Lenapehoking Lodge, formed from several older lodges with roots in the early history of the Order of the Arrow in the area.
