Samuel Howell Irvin was an English rugby union player from Hartlepool. He started with Hartlepool Old Boys, then played for Devonport Albion. In 1905 he was capped once for England, appearing at fullback against Wales in Cardiff. The 0–25 defeat led to him losing his place in the England team. At club level he could also play as a three-quarter and he represented Devon and Durham. Irvin switched to professional rugby league with Oldham for the 1905–06 season. He died on 22 January 1939 in Oldham, England.
