Neubukow
Neubukow is a small town in northern Germany. It is in the Rostock district of the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The town covers about 25.12 square kilometers and sits around 15 meters above sea level. As of December 31, 2023, about 4,019 people live there.
Neubukow lies about 18 kilometers southwest of Bad Doberan and 21 kilometers northeast of Wismar.
The name Neubukow means “New Bukow” and distinguishes it from Old Bukow. The word Bukow comes from a term related to beech trees.
Archaeologist Heinrich Schliemann, who is known for his work related to ancient Troy, was born in Neubukow. There is a small museum dedicated to him, the Heinrich Schliemann-Gedenkstätte, in the town.
