E Battery Royal Horse Artillery
E Battery Royal Horse Artillery is a Close Support artillery unit of the British Army, part of the 1st Regiment Royal Horse Artillery. It is based at Purvis Lines, Larkhill Camp, and traces its origins to E Troop, formed on 1 November 1794. The battery has fought in many wars—from the Peninsular War and Waterloo to the Crimea, the World Wars, and later overseas operations. It has undergone several reorganisations and name changes, was merged with A Battery to form A/E Battery before the 1st RHA era, and converted to the AS-90 self-propelled gun in 1992. After Army 2020 it was re-roled again to an AS-90 Close Support battery and remains equipped with the AS-90, divided into four troops. Its battle honour is Ubique, and its anniversaries are Salamanca Day on 22 July and Foundation Day on 1 November.
