Dominic Yahaya
Dominic Gambo Yahaya is the current Agwatyap III, the paramount ruler of the Atyap Chiefdom in southern Kaduna State, Nigeria. He has held the throne since November 12, 2016, after the passing of Agwatyap II, Harrison Yusuf Bungwon.
Born on January 10, 1950, in Taligan, he grew up in the Northern Region (now southern Kaduna). He studied at St. Pius’ Primary, St. Mary’s/ Government Secondary Fadan Kaje, Barewa College, and Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria. He earned a B.Sc. in Geography and an M.Sc. in Urban and Regional Planning.
Yahaya is married to Justina Yahaya since November 30, 1979, and he is a Catholic. He began working for the Kaduna State government in 1976 and is a trained Town Planner.
In his career, he served as Chairman of the Interim Management Committee for Zangon Kataf Local Government (2011–2012). He was detained after the 1992 Zangon Kataf disturbances as part of a group of prisoners.
As Agwatyap, he received the staff of office from the Kaduna State governor at the Atak Njei palace in 2016.
In November 2023, he launched the Jumma Yahaya Gambo Foundation to support the education of victims of attacks in his Chiefdom.
