This species is found across the Americas, from Mexico and the Caribbean through Central America and into parts of South America.
Larvae (caterpillars) feed by burrowing into the fruit of Solanum plants, including tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) and eggplant (Solanum melongena), as well as other Solanum species and peppers such as Capsicum annuum. They eat the flesh and seeds inside the fruit.
