Nemesis is a one‑off electric sports car built from a Lotus Exige by the British company Ecotricity in 2010. Its goal was to change the stereotype of green cars. The project, led by Ecotricity director Dale Vince, took about two years and cost around £750,000 (including £350,000 of Vince’s own money), with help from Formula 1 engineers.

The petrol engine was removed and replaced with two electric motors of 125 kW each and a two‑stage belt‑driven transaxle. A 36 kWh battery powers the car, with batteries placed to balance weight and some original air ducts removed since they’re not needed for electric propulsion. The exterior is grey with black and white stripes.

Nemesis is a two‑seat coupe, about 3.8 m long, 1.7 m wide, 1.2 m tall, and weighing around 1,166 kg. It uses wind power from Ecotricity for its electricity and has a claimed top speed of 270–320 km/h (170–200 mph), with 0–100 mph in about 8.5 seconds. The car’s range is roughly 240 km (150 miles) on a full charge.

On 27 September 2012, Nemesis set a UK electric‑vehicle land speed record by reaching 243 km/h (151 mph) at Elvington Airfield in North Yorkshire, beating the previous record of 220 km/h.
