Barry Hobbins
Barry J. Hobbins (born May 17, 1951) is an American lawyer and Democratic politician from Maine. He has been the Public Advocate of Maine since May 2017, appointed by Governor Paul LePage.
Hobbins began his political career in the Maine House of Representatives in 1972 at age 21 and served there until 1984 (119th district). He later served in the Maine Senate, first from 1988 to 1990 (31st district) and again from 2004 to 2012 (5th district). He was the Senate Minority Leader from 2010 to 2012. He moved back to the House from 2012 to 2016 (133rd district).
Professionally, Hobbins is a lawyer and partner at a Saco law firm. He served on the University of New England Board of Trustees from 1988 to 2007. He earned a BA from the University of Maine in 1973 and a JD from Franklin Pierce Law Center in 1977.
