Naval Construction Battalion Center Port Hueneme (CBC Port Hueneme) was a U.S. Navy base in Port Hueneme, California. It served as the West Coast home port for the Navy’s Construction Battalions from 1942 until 2000, when it merged with Naval Air Station Point Mugu to form Naval Base Ventura County.

Origins
During World War II, Navy teams looked for a site to support construction at Pacific bases. Port Hueneme was chosen because it was the only deep-water port between Los Angeles and San Francisco. Admiral Ben Moreell approved the plan, and on May 18, 1942, the base opened as an Advance Base Depot to train, stage, and supply the Seabees. In 1945 the depot was renamed Naval Construction Battalion Center.

Role
In the Korean War, CBC Port Hueneme handled almost all Navy construction equipment and supplies for the war effort.

Museum and archives
On nearby Naval Base Ventura County sits the U.S. Navy Seabee Museum, which preserves the Seabees’ history. The Seabee Archive contains operation records, battalion histories, oral histories, biographies, and personal papers.
