Healds Green
Healds Green is a small hamlet in Oldham, Greater Manchester, England. It lies in the northern part of Chadderton, just north of Chadderton Fold, and much of the area around it is green belt. The hamlet has about 41 houses. One of its oldest buildings is The Institute, built in 1789 as a Methodist chapel and a hall for the community. It later served as a grammar school and is now used for social events.
In 1811, Healds Green was the meeting place for Chadderton townsfolk who marched to Manchester in the events that became known as the Peterloo Massacre. Healds Green Methodist Church was founded in 1865; its last service was held in September 2016, and the church has since closed due to dwindling congregations. In September 2019, planners approved converting the church into a five-bedroom luxury home, with works expected to be completed within about three years.
