National Commission for Aerospace Research and Development (CONIDA) is Peru’s government space agency. It was created on June 11, 1974 and is part of the Ministry of Defense. Its headquarters are in San Isidro, Lima, at 1069 Luis Felipe Villarán Street. The Institutional Head is MAG. FAP. Jose A. Garcia Morgan.

CONIDA runs Peru’s government space activities. Its main offices are in Lima and include facilities for meetings, a library, an audiovisual center and a cafeteria. The Punto Lobos site in Pucusana, Lima Province, is used for rocket research and astronomy. The National Satellite Image Operations Center (CNOIS) is in Pucusana and handles gathering, storing, observing and sharing satellite imagery.

Rockets and launches: The Paulet I rocket, named after Peruvian rocket pioneer Pedro Paulet, was launched on December 26, 2006 at Punta Lobos. The Paulet I-B flew on June 11, 2013 and reached about 15 km in altitude. The Paulet I-C flew on December 22, 2021 to test propellants and trajectory.

In 2020, the Institutional Head said Peru could reach 300 km in altitude with 100% national technology.

CNOIS began on July 19, 2006 and started operating its own space technology around February 2016, with much of the equipment developed in partnership with Airbus Defence and Space. This collaboration helped create PeruSat-1, an Earth observation satellite launched on September 15, 2016 from the Guiana Space Centre in Kourou as part of the Vega flight VV07. On December 8, 2016, CONIDA and CNOIS were officially given control of PeruSat-1.

Peru joined the Asia-Pacific Space Cooperation Organization on October 28, 2005.
