Naila Zaman Khan
Naila Zaman Khan is a Bangladeshi neurologist who specializes in children. She founded and led the Department of Pediatric Neuroscience at Dhaka Shishu Hospital and the Bangladesh Institute of Child Health from 1992 to 2018. She created the Shishu Bikash Network and has held leadership roles as General Secretary of the Bangladesh Protibondhi Foundation and Secretary General of the Bangladesh Society for Child Neurology, Development and Disability, as well as Chairperson of the Bangladesh Society of Pediatric Neuro Electro-Physiologists.
From 2008 to 2018, she was the National Co-ordinator for the Ministry of Health to establish multidisciplinary Child Development Centers in government hospitals.
Education: She completed SSC in 1968 and HSC in 1970 in Dhaka. She earned MBBS from Dhaka Medical College in 1977, FCPS in Pediatrics in 1984, and a PhD in Neurodevelopmental Pediatrics from the Institute of Child Health, University of London in 1991.
She has been active in national issues through health activism and community work. She brought attention to lead poisoning from leaded petrol, helping it be banned. Since 1994 she has worked with Sammilita Nari Samaj to protest violence against women and children and to push for protective laws. In 2021 she spoke on constitutional matters and urged former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia to seek treatment abroad for faster care.
