Firefly Media Server
Firefly Media Server (formerly mt-daapd) is an open-source audio server that streams music to Roku SoundBridge devices and iTunes. It serves media using DAAP and Roku’s Roku Server Protocol (RSP). Written in C, it was released under the GPL-2.0-or-later. The last official release was 0.2.4.2 on April 19, 2008, and the project was renamed after adding features like RSP support and cross‑platform compatibility with Windows and macOS.
Development has slowed, and there have been attempts to revive it. An effort called Firefly2 Media Server did not attract developers. In July 2009, a Linux/FreeBSD fork named forked-daapd began, later renamed OwnTone Server. The project site still hosts forums and links to forks.
