Movement for the Progress of Madagascar
Movement for the Progress of Madagascar (Malagasy: Mpitolona ho an'ny Fandrosoan'i Madagasikara, MFM) is a political party in Madagascar. Its chairman is Manandafy Rakotonirina.
Founded on 27 December 1972, it began as the Party for Proletarian Power to oppose the military regime then in power. It stayed in opposition during the Ratsiraka era and helped push him to step down in 1991. The party backed Marc Ravalomanana in the December 2001 presidential election and helped persuade him to declare himself the winner after questioning the official result.
The party later adopted liberal ideas and changed its name to Movement for the Progress of Madagascar. It is an observer member of the Liberal International, which it joined at the Marrakesh Congress in 2006.
Since the 23 September 2007 National Assembly elections, it has not held seats in parliament. The party is based in Antananarivo and its ideology is liberalism with a centrist position. It has regional ties with the Africa Liberal Network and international ties with Liberal International. Website: http://nah296.free.fr/
