Michael Azerrad
Michael Azerrad is an American author, music journalist, editor, and musician. He earned a BA from Columbia College in 1983 and has written for Spin, Rolling Stone, The New York Times, The New Yorker, Mojo, and Italian GQ, among others.
He is best known for two books. Come as You Are: The Story of Nirvana (1993) is a detailed biography of the band published just before Kurt Cobain’s death. Our Band Could Be Your Life (2001) profiles influential indie rock bands from the 1980s and early 1990s, such as Sonic Youth, Black Flag, Minutemen, and the Replacements. Both books are highly regarded in rock writing.
Azerrad has also worked on film and editing projects. He co-produced the documentary Kurt Cobain: About a Son (2006) and edited See a Little Light, the memoir by Bob Mould (2011). He has written liner notes for many artists and contributed to magazines and newspapers.
As a musician, Azerrad has played with several bands, including The King of France, The LeeVees, and The Macaroons.
