Edward J. McGoldrick
Edward J. McGoldrick (1871–1951) was a long-serving New York Supreme Court judge. He spent 23 years on the state’s highest court, and also ruled for New York City and The Bronx, doing legal work for four NYC mayors. Governor Al Smith appointed him to the Supreme Court. One famous case was Helen Kane’s lawsuit against the creators of Betty Boop. He was nominated in 1920 to replace Philip Henry Dugro and, in 1922, took over Bartow S. Weeks’s seat. Born in Albany, he later served as private secretary to Lieutenant Governor William F. Sheehan and was a Democrat tied to Tammany Hall.
